Block paving driveway S11
This driveway was in eccelsall Sheffield S11 and was part of a larger project.
The customer wanted a new driveway installing so we started by giving them ideas and prices on tarmac, indian stone cobbles and block paving.
They opted for the block paving as they liked the look and colour as it would match the porch we constructed for them.
We excavated down but we were struggling to find firm ground and with a lot of the drives on the road already sinking we knew we had to make double sure our driveway installation was going no where!
We decided on laying a layer of a geotextile called Terram directly on to the excavated soil as this would act as ground stabilizer and reduce the risk of the sub base(hardcore type 1) pumping in to the substrate (soil)
On top of this we spread and compacted 250mm of Type 1 crushed limestone followed by a screeded layer of grit sand and again this was compacted.
Finally we layed charcoal block paving blocks. There was a manhole on the drive so we swapped the unattractive cover for one that can be paved in to which tied in well on the drive giving a seamless look.
We added some final touches such as a new lawn and some purple slate laid on a weed membrane.
